Culturas Deportivas de Chile: Study abroad in Chile with Towson University in Spring Break 2020! Chile is an emergent economic and cultural force in South America, including in relation to sport and physical activity. This Spring 2020 course (with travel to Chile during Spring Break) will allow participants to gain a thorough understanding of the cultural aspects of sport and physical activity in Chile from a global perspective and through first-hand experience.

The program will be based in Santiago with an overnight excursion to Valparaiso, featuring historical and cultural site visits and tours. Program highlights include guest lectures by professionals from a variety of sport and performance-related organizations in Chile, visits to multiple sport and training venues, and opportunities to gain professional experience and knowledge regarding Latin American sport policy and governance at the international, professional, amateur and community levels.

Students will have online coursework and in-person meetings in the spring semester before and after travel to Chile during Spring Break from March 13 - 23, 2020.

DEADLINE EXTENDED THROUGH OCTOBER 31, 2019. Admission is on a rolling basis. Early application is advised as space is limited.

Students may choose one of the following courses:

KNES 285 Sport: Cross-cultural Perspective (3 credits, Core 12)
KNES 494 Travel and Study in Kinesiology (3 credits)

TU students may receive Honors credit for their study abroad experience.

 

Students will stay in shared rooms in hotels and/or hostels

Program price includes academic credit, international airfare, housing, excursions, health insurance, and some meals as noted in the itinerary. Additional costs include all other meals, personal expenses, and the Study Abroad Fee.

The Towson University Study Abroad Office reserves the right to make any necessary changes including adjustments in cost in the event that unforeseen circumstances arise.

Note: International airfare IS included in the program cost. Students are required to participate in the group flight.

Withdrawals/Refunds: After admission into the program, the student is responsible for the full program fee. Should the student wish to withdraw from the program for any reason after admission, only recoverable expenses may be refunded. Non-recoverable expenses may include but are not limited to costs paid to a study abroad provider, travel agency, or other third party by TU on the students behalf; housing; transportation; non-refundable deposits; activity fees; honorariums; guest lecture fees. Towson University withdrawal/drop/add deadlines do not apply. The student must submit his/her intention to withdraw in writing to the TU Study Abroad Office.

Students must have a cumulative GPA of 2.5, a high school diploma or equivalent experience, and be at least 18 years old.

Note: This trip involves moderate to occasionally intense physical exertion i.e. strenuous hiking, walking, eco-tourism.
