Study away in New York City in summer 2022! Explore New York Theatre from historical, textual, and cultural perspectives. Develop an understanding of the history and culture that creates an ever changing art. Through museums visits and tours, experience events that have become a part of the fabric of NYC and the theatre that has evolved as a result.

The program features musical, Broadway, Off Broadway, and experiential performances in a range of theatre spaces. Additional highlights include a Theater District Tour, an excursion to the Costume Collection at the Fashion Institute of Technology, visits to the Tenement Museum and 9/11 Memorial, and a Ghost Tour.

May 31 - June 10, 2022. Class assignments and meetings may also take place online and/or on the Towson University campus prior to and after the away experience.

MARCH 15, 2022. Admission is on a rolling basis. Early application is advised as space is limited.

Students will take one of the following courses for a total of three credits:

  • THEA 103 Introduction to American Theatre (3 credits; Core 11)
  • THEA 488 Theatre Visitation and Analysis (3 credits)

Double occupancy rooms in hotels with daily breakfast.

Program fee includes academic credit, housing, daily breakfast, excursions, on-site orientation, NYC subway pass, and some meals. Additional costs include personal expenses, all other meals, and the Study Abroad/Away Fee.

The Towson University Study Abroad Office reserves the right to make any necessary changes including adjustments in cost in the event that unforeseen circumstances arise.

Withdrawals/Refunds: After admission into the program, the student is responsible for the full program fee. Should the student wish to withdraw from the program for any reason after admission, only recoverable expenses may be refunded. Non-recoverable expenses may include but are not limited to costs paid to a provider, travel agency, or other third party by TU on the students behalf; housing; transportation; non-refundable deposits; activity fees; honorariums; guest lecture fees. Towson University withdrawal/drop/add deadlines do not apply. The student must submit his/her intention to withdraw in writing to the TU Study Abroad Office.

 

Students must have a cumulative GPA of 2.5, a high school diploma or equivalent experience, and be at least 18 years old.

IMPORTANT: Participants are required to be vaccinated against COVID-19 in order to study abroad/away and are strongly encouraged to get a booster shot. Medical and religious exemptions will be considered. Participants must comply with all entry requirements and COVID related regulations of the host state and program provider/host institution. All students are strongly encouraged to purchase travel insurance with cancel for any reason (CFAR) coverage for all study abroad/away related expenses.
