Study communication and global competence in Barcelona, Spain with Towson University. Barcelona, known for its rich and vibrant Catalan cultural identity, provides an ideal learning environment for understanding the relationship between communication, culture and identity, as well as developing skills necessary to attain competency in today's globalized world. Participants will take part in class lectures, discussions and exercises, learn from guest speakers, and participate in field excursions. Program highlights include visits to Monserrat, Girona, the Dali-Theater museum in Figueres, a walking architectural tour, tapas cooking classes, and a visit to the Barcelona soccer stadium Camp Nou.

Students choose one of the following:

MCOM 479 Special Topics in Mass Communication (3 credits)
COMM 470 Special Topics in Communication (3 credits)
MCOM 670 Special Topics in Mass Communication - graduate level (3 credits)

TU students may receive Honors credit for their study abroad experience.

Students will be housed in apartments with access to a shared kitchen area and a communal dining/study area. 

Program fee includes academic credit, housing, excursions, health insurance, and a welcome and farewell dinner. Additional costs include international airfare, all other meals, personal expenses, and the Study Abroad Fee.

IMPORTANT: Students participating in this program will be required to have a cell phone useable/serviceable in Spain. The cost of a cell phone, international phone plan, or related charges is not included in the program fee.

The Towson University Study Abroad Office reserves the right to make any necessary changes including adjustments in cost in the event that unforeseen circumstances arise.

TU Communication and Global Competence in Barcelona, Spain

Note: International airfare is NOT included in the program cost.Students will be responsible for making their own travel arrangements to the program location to arrive by the designated date and time. The Study Abroad Office will identify an optional flight which participants are encouraged to purchase independently.

Withdrawals/Refunds: After admission into the program, the student is responsible for the full program fee. Should the student wish to withdraw from the program for any reason after admission, only recoverable expenses may be refunded. Non-recoverable expenses may include but are not limited to costs paid to a study abroad provider, travel agency, or other third party by TU on the students behalf; housing; transportation; non-refundable deposits; activity fees; honorariums; guest lecture fees. Towson University withdrawal/drop/add deadlines do not apply. The student must submit his/her intention to withdraw in writing to the TU Study Abroad Office.

Students must have a cumulative GPA of 2.5, a high school diploma or equivalent experience, and be at least 18 years old at the time of application.

Prerequisites: MCOM 101 or COMM 201 or consent of instructor. Recommended for MCOM or COMM majors. Other majors will be required to meet with the program director to assess their eligibility for the program.
