*TU Spanish Language and Indigenous Cultures in Antigua (Faculty-Led)

*Towson University
Minimester (Winter Break)
Antigua, Guatemala (Map)

Immerse yourself in the Spanish language and learn about indigenous cultures in Guatemala with Towson University. Students will receive highly personalized, one-on-one Spanish language instruction from the Fundacion Proyecto Linguistico Francisco Morraquin (PLFM), during which they will learn to use the language in practical and authentic contexts.

The program is located in Antigua - a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Antigua, Guatemala, or "Ancient Guatemala," once the capital of New Spain, is well known for its language schools and is considered one of the best locations to learn a "pure" form of Spanish. Guatemalan Spanish is considered pure because it has little influence from other languages. In Antigua, students will also have daily interaction with the large indigenous population.

Program highlights include visits to a coffee plantation, an excursion to Lake Atitlan, and a weekend visit to the famous Mayan ruins of Tikal in northern Guatemala. While visiting Tikal, students will experience a completely different terrain and cultural context than that of Antigua. Students will stay in a jungle lodge and have the opportunity to take a canopy zip line tour.
